I was reminded recently that Mother’s day isn’t awesome for everyone. To the family whose mother passed into eternity this week, this Mother’s day will be different from all other’s before. To those who lost their mother while they still needed them (although don’t we always still need them), it’s another Mother’s Day of “what ifs”. To those whose mother never got to see the new you…the sober you…the stable you…Mother’s Day may be tinged with sorrow also. Maybe your children are far away physically or emotionally and your arms ache to hold them today. Maybe although your mom is still here, there is a chasm between separating you that you can’t seem to get across.
No matter the circumstance, your sorrow has not gone unobserved. God is our EVER PRESENT help in time of trouble.(Psalm 46:1). God has collected and recorded every tear you have cried (Psalm 56:8). He longs to give you beauty and the oil of joy for your ashes and mourning. He wants to exchange your spirit of despair for a garment of praise (Isaiah 61:3)
Lord, God of all comfort, bless your children struggling with mixed emotions this Mother’s Day. Surround them with people who will love them. May they feel your presence today and every day. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
